Hi, my name is Kate and my majors are English and Education. I am also getting a minor in Women and Gender Studies, as well as a concentration in Shakespeare Studies. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, and I decided I wanted to teach English in middle school because I’ve always loved reading, and one of my middle school English teachers helped me learn to like writing as well. I’m also getting my minor and concentration because these are both topics that I really enjoy learning about and would love to teach too. My favorite book series is Throne of Glass, and my favorite stand-alone book is To Kill a Mockingbird. My favorite genre is fantasy, but I read a wide range of genres besides fantasy. My plans for the future are to graduate and become a high school English teacher and then get my master’s after a few years.
The main focus that I want to get out of this class is to get better at writing, specifically with how my writing flows. I feel confident about the ideas that I have and what I want to say, but the organization and structure of my pieces is something that I struggle with sometimes. I want to get better at integrating quotes and sources into my writing in a way that sounds natural. I also think my ideas tend to bounce around in my writing because I get excited and change topics then go back to the original topic and have trouble organizing that writing into something with good momentum. Since we’re going to be doing a lot of writing this semester I’m definitely looking forward to going through the revision process a lot and getting better with all aspects of my writing
